The NAHC Mentoring Program builds upon the success of the HHFMA Mentoring Program, with former mentees becoming mentors to support emerging leaders. Prospective mentees must answer a few questions and complete a personality assessment. The NAHC Mentoring Task Force will use specific criteria to pair each mentee with a suitable mentor.
Whether individuals wish to be mentees seeking professional development or mentors looking to give back to the community, the NAHC mentoring program offers an ideal platform for growth and engagement.

What is the mentoring program?
The NAHC Mentoring Program is a 12-month facilitated program designed specifically for NAHC members to cultivate deeper NAHC involvement and foster growth within to keep top talent in the industry.
Who is a mentor?
A senior leader in the home- and community-based care services industry who is committed to helping leaders grow and advance in their careers and organizations through providing guidance and support to assist mentees with networking, navigating conferences, committee involvement, advocacy efforts and other initiatives within the industry.
Who is a mentee?
A growth-minded leader in a home- and community-based services organization who is committed to bettering themselves and increasing their participation in NAHC through the advice, council and networking assistance of a seasoned industry professional.
Who is a facilitator?
An assigned NAHC member will play a facilitating role in helping mentors and mentees initiate and cultivate their relationship throughout the 12-month program. Facilitators monitor the program, tracking performance metrics and helping ensure the program operates according to plan.
Who is a staff liaison?
NAHC staff member who provides program oversight and advice and logistical assistance to the NAHC mentoring task force and program facilitators. The staff liaison also helps facilitate connections with other NAHC assets or initiatives. The staff liaison is an active participant in the NAHC mentoring task force.

Yes, one individual can serve as a mentor and a mentee in the program.
What are the benefits of the program?
The program is designed to grow mentees within the industry by guiding them through NAHC. Mentees will benefit by being paired with an experienced industry leader to assist them with networking, navigating conferences, committee involvement, advocacy efforts and other professional development initiatives within the industry.
How does this differ from a mentorship program within my organization?
Traditional mentoring programs within your organization are typically coaching or career developing in nature. NAHC mentors do not replace supervisory workplace relationships and are for supportive purposes only. The NAHC mentoring program focuses on fostering involvement and growth within the NAHC community and the industry overall .
How long does the program last?
The structured mentorship program lasts for a period of 12-months.
What is the time commitment of a mentor?
It is estimated that the mentor time commitment will be between 4 to 6 hours per quarter. It is anticipated that more time will be spent leading up to, during and after NAHC events.
What is the time commitment of a mentee?
It is estimated that the mentee time commitment will be between 6 to 8 hours per quarter. It is anticipated that more time will be spent leading up to, during and after NAHC events. The mentee will also be responsible for managing their development toolkit and prep time prior to meeting with their mentor.
Is the program and my information confidential?
Yes, all mentoring program and personal information of the mentors and mentees is strictly confidential. Mentors and Mentees are expected to treat all conversations respectfully and confidentially. The mentoring relationship is intended to be a safe place. In addition, Mentors and Mentees should maintain professional standards throughout the relationship and respect competitive dynamics.
Can I nominate someone to be a mentor or mentee?
Yes, you are welcome to nominate someone to serve as a mentor or a mentee. Simply click on the appropriate link below and submit the requested information. An email will be sent to the nominee, and you will receive a copy of the message. As indicated above, self-nominations are welcome.
